Creattura and IRRI Sign First Partnership under AGRI Project to Advance Low-Emission Rice Farming
Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines, 29 June, 2026 - Creattura Philippines Inc. and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for quantifying and reducing green house gas (GHG) emissions from rice fields in the Philippines.
The agreement is the first partnership formalized under the “Accelerating Development and Scaling of Agricultural Innovations for Reducing GHG Emissions in ASEAN Countries” (AGRI) project of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), positioning the partnership as an early milestone for the regional initiative. It brings together IRRI’s expertise in rice science and GHG measurement with Creattura’s field implementation experience.

"Ricefarming can be both productive and climate resilient. Through this partnership with IRRI, we are bringing together science, field implementation, and digital innovation—three elements we believe are essential to advancing the decarbonization of rice production," said Tomomichi Hattori, Creattura Philippines Inc. President. "High-integrity carbon projects require sound science, credible data, and transparent monitoring, and IRRI's scientific expertise is critical to strengthening how emissions are measured and validated."
Under this partnership, the organizations will jointly advance research and development initiatives focused on GHG measurement in rice-based farming systems. This includes technical coordination, laboratory analysis, and structured data-sharing frameworks. The partnership is expected to enhance project monitoring capabilities, improve the accuracy and credibility of emissions-related data, and enable the delivery of high-integrity climate solutions for rice-based farming systems. The partnership underscores the shared commitment of IRRI and Creattura Philippines to translate research,robust measurement, and field-based insights into scalable and actionable climate solutions.
IRRI Director General Dr. Yvonne Pinto emphasized that the agreement goes beyond a formal collaboration. "This is more than the formalization of a partnership. It is a tangible expression of what becomes possible when the right science meets the right partners. The bridge between the laboratory and the farmer's field is where impact is made, and we are proud to be building that bridge together with Creattura," she said.
Satoshi Nozawa, MAFF Japan Director of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Research Council Secretariat, highlighted the importance of partnerships that connect research with practical application. "Scientific research creates greater value when its outcomes are connected with practical application in the field.Collaboration between research institutions and the private sector is essential for translating scientific knowledge into sustainable agricultural solutions," he said.
