We, Creattura Co., Ltd., a Climate-tech to provide decarbonization solutions, has been selected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Environment Public Service Corporation, as a small and medium-sized enterprise in Tokyo with excellent GX-related technologies, to receive expense subsidies and support related to master plan design, on-site surveys, pilot projects, and commercialization.

[Outline of the project]

• The selected project is Creattura’s initiative aiming to develop IT system that streamlines complicated operations related to Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), which is a method of reducing greenhouse gases in paddy fields, and will provide it in Asian countries along with the operational know-how we have cultivated so far.  

• In this initiative, we will develop AWD in the rice-growing regions partnering with local companies with local knowledge and access to farmers.

【Background of the initiative】

• AWD is a repeated process in which paddy fields are filled with water and then drained, which can reduce water consumption, inhibit the development of methane-producing bacteria in waterlogged paddy fields, and greatly reduce methane gas generation. ​
  Methane gas is said to have a greenhouse effect 28 times that of carbon dioxide.

• Since September 2023, we have conducted a demonstration test of the application of AWD to rice cultivation in Pangasinan Province, Republic of the Philippines, followed by pilot projects in Vietnam, Thailand and Bangladesh. And we are refining our AWD operation methods every season.  

• Large-scale AWD requires a lot of effort, such as coordinating with tens of thousands of farmers on flooding and drainage operations, taking and organizing at least hundreds of thousands of monitoring photos per season.  

• We digitize these processes, deliver software platform to AWD project developers and contribute to the dissemination of AWD and promote climate change measures in Asian countries.
